The Budget 2015: Criminal Background Checks Should Be Digital By Default!

In documents released alongside the Budget a few weeks ago, the government have claimed they will make all criminal record checks ‘digital by default’. Well, here at CB Screening we’ve been doing that for years!

Find out more here about these proposed updates and how our online DBS checks are already helping thousands of people.

What Did the Budget Say About Online DBS Checks?

The government have decided to make background checks ‘digital by default’ so the whole process ‘can be conducted online’.

Of course, paper applications won’t be abolished completely as this can alienate those who aren’t IT savvy. But it is likely that the fees for paper applications will be hiked to encourage use of the internet service.

The Disclosure and Barring Service has not yet announced when this change will take place. A spokesperson for the organisation has said:

“We do not have a date when criminal checks will go digital yet but will keep customers informed as the project progresses.”
The Cabinet Office minister, Francis Maude, predicted this digital switch last year when he said people would have to go online or risk losing access to important government services. He claimed, this digital takeover will happen as they “think that [it] is a better thing for people’s lives.”

People who require IT training to use the service will, therefore, be provided with a one off lesson to help them get online. Or, of course, they can come to us here at CB Screening!

CBS Online Checks

We’ve been submitting DBS checks for applicants since 2005, and thanks to our strategic partnership with software house Trivex, we have been providing customers with ebulk and individual online DBS checks for years.

Over this time we have mastered our system’s technology so that it is continually updated to provide a refined and functional service to our customers. But why else should you go online with CB Screening? Well…

• 95% of standard and 80% of our enhanced disclosures are returned within 5 days
• 80% of our basic disclosures are returned within 10 days
• We have a 0.05% error rate
• Our online system is fully validated so you’ll never have an application returned to you
• No postal charges or delays
• It reduces your carbon footprint
• And you can access our system 24/7 everyday

The government may be setting up an online system, but who knows how long that will take (and if it’ll be any good). So stick with us. Our online system is tried, tested and can be relied upon to conduct your DBS checks quickly and accurately.
