Fully Bilingual WSA DBS Service Launched For The WRU

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and the Welsh Sports Association (WSA), in partnership with Complete Background Screening (CBS), are delighted to announce that its Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is now fully bilingual.

The WSA has provided its standard DBS Service to the WRU to make the sport safer since 2017 but, in July 2021, a bespoke system was developed for the union, taking the service’s Welsh-Language capabilities to another level. The latest edition of the development is the built-in option within their system to display the online DBS form bilingually and system notifications will also be bilingual.

The WRU have continued to utilise their bespoke system and have conducted over 5,000 DBS checks since it was developed in 2021.

Geraint John, WRU community director, said: “It’s an important part of our Welsh language policy to give as many individuals as possible the opportunity to use their preferred language when utilising various WRU products. We want to be able to provide a service for everybody in Wales and are grateful to the time and effort WSA and CBS have dedicated to this project, which allows access 24 hours a day.”

WSA Chief Executive Andrew Howard (above) said, “We’re delighted to work with the WRU on this project as we both value the importance of Welsh language provision for Members. We also offer a bilingual helpline should WRU members have any questions.”

The WSA, via trading arm Vibrant Nation, provides online DBS Checks as part of our commitment to ensuring sport and physical activity is safe for everyone to enjoy. Tested and approved by the Ministry of Justice and The Home Office, it has also been endorsed by both Welsh Government and the NSPCC so the service is up-to-date and of the highest quality.

The WSA is the only provider of a fully bilingual system and service in Wales. The system is entirely web-based and can be accessed from any location, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Another benefit of the WSA system is the wide range of ID verification options, including the Post Office and Digital ID checking.
