Profile: Rachel Bedgood, Owner Of Complete Background Screening

Hi everyone. I’m Rachel Bedgood, owner of Complete Background Screening based in Mountain Ash in the beautiful Cynon Valley in Wales.

CBS is an award-winning, fully accredited, provider of top-tier DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Checks and Pre-Employment Checking Solutions, to SME’s and larger organisations throughout Wales (and the UK), including G4S, British Heart Foundation, and ITV.

I am proud to say, we are the only provider who offers background screening in both English and Welsh.

I regularly attend networking events and host the popular I AM WOMAN networking events and workshops at our offices. I’m a firm believer in giving back to women on every part of their business journey.

One of the questions I’m often asked is what advice I would give my younger self.

I’ve thought about this a lot over the years and, honestly, I wish I’d have had the ability to see myself the way others did. I felt constant pressure to be better and focused on the things I wasn’t achieving, rather than recognising the good things I was getting right. Perception is so critically important to everyone, and yet everyone’s perception is different all of the time. I would have liked to tell my younger self to acknowledge and celebrate all the victories, never mind how small they might have been.

I never take for granted my position in the business world. Yes, we are a very successful company but that’s because of sheer hard work, guts, determination and a great team behind me (with a little bit of luck thrown in along the way).

All of us need the support of each other to flourish, that’s the one that has been proven to me time and again.

My CBS journey
I am a mum of three girls. I was made redundant twice from previous careers in administration, so I know what it’s like to be happy in your work and have the rug pulled from under you. When that happened, at 23, I was determined to never be in that position again.

I established Complete Background Screening (CBS) in 2005, an employment-screening house, providing bespoke software systems conducting online criminal record and employment reference checks. CBS provides screening services for individuals, SMEs and multi-national organisations UK wide. We have steadily grown CBS into Wales’ largest and one of the UK’s largest provider of criminal checks & background screening services.

Our success has come from sheer hard work and the development of pioneering new products in the CRB/DBS field, reducing average processing times to four days – up to 30 times faster than industry competitors. On a monthly basis we see more than 10,000 DBS checks back in less than 24 hours.

Our solutions empower a wide variety of organisations across the UK and globally to make informed hiring decisions with unmatched speed and efficiency.
