What’s Been Happening in the DBS Since its Last Newsletter?

It’s been a while since the DBS newsletter was released, but we recently got a ping in our inbox and can now announce that the newly revamped newsletter will now be sent out quarterly.

So, what has the DBS been up to since its last newsletter? Well, here’s a synopsis of its latest news:

A New Telephone Process

Back in May, the DBS introduced a new telephone application process and since then its average call abandonment rate has reduced considerably. Its aim was to have less than 5% of calls abandoned and now just 2% hang up.

A Centre of Excellence

The DBS has been talking about becoming a centre of excellence by 2017 for a while now. And there’s been a lot of action recently in a bid to meet this target.

The DBS say it has taken ‘big steps’ to ‘improve the speed’ of its processing and will continue to look at this throughout the rest of 2015. It is also looking to reduce delays by providing support to five police forces who have struggled recently with the volume of DBS checks.

Finally, in order to provide customers with a quality service, the DBS is looking to reduce the number of errors and improve accuracy.

Of course, you could just apply for DBS checks online with us here at CBS. We have a fully validated application system which eliminates the opportunity for human error, meaning no essential information can be missed and you’ll never have an application returned to you before completion.

The DBS Are Going Online

Here at CBS, we’ve been offering background screening and DBS checks online for years, and the DBS has now finally realised the benefit of this. It is set to release a digital portal, which they are currently testing.
In the meantime, you can learn more about our online background screening here.

The Results of the 1st Independent Customer Satisfaction Survey

  • 94% say the DBS are professional
  • 95% say the DBS are polite
  • 73% think speed is more important than cost
  • The speed of the DBS process was the main reason why people were dissatisfied

The DBS Fraud Team Have Been Busy!

The DBS fraud team have been working hard over the last few months in order to safeguard outcomes and ensure DBS certificates are reliable and credible.
In March, the team started working with the National Crime Agency (NCA) to support an investigation into those who conceal their identity online in order to communicate with young children. Checks are ongoing, so watch this space.
In April, the team took action against a hospital doctor who was working with a tampered DBS certificate. The doctor has since been arrested, found guilty of 21 charges, including fraud, and is awaiting sentencing.
Lastly, in June, we were alerted of 10 fraud charges made against an individual whom had made multiple DBS applications using a fake French passport and NI card. This individual has been taken to court.
In the 3 months leading up to the release of the latest DBS newsletter, the team secured actions against 230 people for fraudulent offences.
