In Light of Sarah Everard: The importance of continual background checks throughout a person’s employment

At CBS, we are always talking about the importance of background checks and how they are an integral step in finding the right person for the right job. However, we must always remember that re-checks are just as important throughout an employee’s time in their position.

It perceived as best practice that DBS checks be performed at least every 3 years. However, employers often determine themselves when background checks are needed, which we very much agree with! Unfortunately, we can never guarantee how often organisations and business are performing these rechecks, as the everyday tasks of working life dominate, meaning rechecks are sometimes pushed to the side.

So, why are we discussing this today?

You may have seen the recent heart-breaking news regarding the case of Sarah Everard… There is no need to go into the full details of the tragedy here, but her safety was let down by those who are supposed to protect us.

What has been discovered from this horrific incident, is how important it is that re-checks are done and that they are performed regularly. Regardless of initial checks taken by our police force, or any organisations and businesses, we need to ensure the frequency of re-checks to prioritise the safeguarding and protection of others.

Here at CBS the protection and safeguarding of others is something that is very important to us. So, what can we do to help?

We can offer our DBS update service.

The DBS update service ensures that criminal records are always up to date. If there are any changes to an individual’s record, you will be notified, ensuring any updates impacting an individual’s role can be accounted for. This also provides confidence that you are protecting those you are responsible for, by enhancing your safeguarding procedures.

The update service is a specialist service. It can save you valuable time and money because we realise that employers do not want to be repeating the same checks over and over. We can monitor and update you as required, so ensuring the right people remain in the right roles is taken care of.

We offer a host of rescreening packages that can include annual Right to Work checks, financial checks, PEPs & Sanctions, and much much more…

You can read more about our service here, or if you would like to speak to us about this service, give us a call on 01443 799900. We would love to speak with you 😀
