DBS Eligibility Changes: What Do They Mean for You?

On Friday 24th August 2018, the Disclosure and Barring Service informed us that it is making some changes to the eligibility guidance published online regarding DBS checks. Find out what’s changing and how it will affect you here.

How is DBS Eligibility Guidance Changing?

The DBS has informed us that its Guide to Eligibility will be replaced by a new document which will explain the roles and types of work that are eligible for standard DBS checks.

Child, adult and other workforce guides will be replaced by new versions too. The DBS has changed the format slightly in order to make the guidance easier to read and understand, as well as added more detailed guidance on regulated activity. You’ll now find legislative references at the end of the document.

Lastly, the DBS’ online guide will also contain guidance for applicants on what to do if they think they have been asked to apply for an ineligible check.

Will This Influence Criminal Background Check Eligibility?

It is important to note, although the format of the guidance resources has changed, eligibility legislation has not. This is simply a method for making guidance on this legislation more user-friendly. Therefore, eligibility is unaffected.
